Most brackets on the market are compatible with the SolarFlash®. The bracket would need to have a least a 30mm elbow to provide clearance from the roofing material underneath.
You can contact us via email / phone to check compatibility of the bracket you intend to use.
No, we would not recommend the use of a flat bracket (no elbow). These brackets sit on the roofing material causing the roofing material to bear load. The length of a bracket should be in relation to the head lap and not the size of the slate.
The standard HallClip® measures approx. 15mm x 15mm and is designed to fit chase joints of 6mm – 18mm.
The HallClip+® is a larger clip measuring 30mm x 25mm and will fit chase joints of 16mm – 26mm.
A pack of 50 standard HallClips® will fix up to 20 linear metres of flashing.
One pack of the larger HallClip+® will fix up to 10 linear metres of flashing.
We have an installation video available here.
The HookPull® helps position slates when using our HallHook® product. Once your slate is in place, gently pull the HookPull® until the HallHook® hooks the base of the slate.

Our range of SolarFlash® products can be used with (but not limited to) the following:
- Cambrian
- Flat Tiles
- Slates
- Profile Tiles
The product can be purchased on this website however we have stockists all over the UK and Ireland. Please view the stockists page to find a local supplier.
We would never recommend the use of a flat bracket. The main issue we see is that any contact between the bracket and the roofing material will transfer movement in the panels onto the roofing material.
Per building regulations and the manufacturers specification for that roofing material, but never less than 20 degrees.
SolarFlash® is designed to give a maximum 4 inch / 100mm headlap, and is designed for single lap tile layout and double lap slate layout (with slates, the pitch is as per the building inspectors recommendation).
We currently supply 4 different SolarFlash® kits:
- SolarFlash® Slate New Build Kit
- SolarFlash® Slate Refit Kit
- SolarFlash® Flat Tile Kit
- SolarFlash® Profile Tile Kit

On a new build, the answer is a straight yes, because you would position the brackets in exactly the same way as on a battened roof. On a retrofit, when you are replacing the last course of slates, you can't access the nailholes, so you would need to use the HallHook. On a battened roof the nail holes are determined by the battens. On a sark boarded roof, the nails should be in the right position but they could be in a different position.
If the nails are not in the same position on a battened roof, then the HallHook can't work effectively as the lap could be compromised.
Note: The hood on the SolarFlash® has a depth of 40mm. The Bracket should sit within the hood. If the Elbow (the first bend after the fixing plate) is greater than 40mm it will not fit within the hood.
Either the bracket needs to have an elbow of less than 40mm OR you would need to find the rafter, cut a hole in the sark board, exposing the rafter under the sark board and attach the bracket directly to the rafter.
It depends on whether the nails are in the right position. On a battened roof the nail holes are determined by the battens. On a sark boarded roof, the nails should be in the right position but they could be in a different position.
If the nails are not in the same position on a battened roof, then the HallHook® can't work effectively as the lap could be compromised.
