Genius Roof Solutions, the UK’s leading specialist in slate-compatible solar flashing systems, has appointed Liz Cammack as Non-Executive Transitional Chair, marking a significant step in the company’s next phase of structured growth.
Founded by lifelong roofer and innovator Jimmy Hall and his wife Linda, Genius entered the solar market in 2011. Jimmy’s life on the tools instilled a clear principle, “the roof comes first.” After identifying widespread poor practice in rooftop PV installations, he created SolarFlash® — a purpose-designed system engineered to waterproof solar mounting brackets while preserving the building fabric.
Today, Genius holds an estimated 77% share of the UK and Ireland slate solar flashing market and sold over 1 million slate-compatible flashing units in 2024 alone, positioning the company as the dominant specialist.
The business remains proudly family-rooted and is now run by Jimmy’s daughters, who continue Jimmy Hall’s legacy while guiding the company into its next growth phase.
Liz Cammack brings more than 15 years’ experience across renewable energy and solar wholesale distribution. She co-founded Zenex Solar Ltd before its acquisition and later held senior leadership roles at Segen, one of Europe’s leading solar distributors. She also serves on industry bodies including Solar Energy UK, contributing to standards development and market progression across the sector.
Her appointment comes as regulatory change under MCS 3.0 places greater emphasis on system-level compatibility and compliant installation practices — an area where Genius has been actively collaborating with mounting system manufacturers and distributors to ensure seamless integration.
Recent innovations such as SpeedFlash®, which eliminates drilling through slate and significantly reduces installation time, have reinforced the company’s leadership position and earned major industry recognition, including the Innovation Award at Solar & Storage Live 2025.
“Genius represents something rare: deep roofing authenticity combined with technical innovation. As solar deployment accelerates, protecting the building fabric is essential to protecting the reputation of our industry. Genius reminds me a lot of my own history. A family business, now on the cusp of something even greater.”
Commenting on her appointment, Liz Cammack
